NOVEMBER 13, 2009 CLEAR CHANNEL OUTDOOR WINS PRESTIGIOUS UK IT INDUSTRY AWARDClear Channel Outdoor UK’s pioneering proof of posting system WAVe (Wireless Activity Verification), was named Private Sector Project of the Year at the UK IT Industry Awards last night (12 November). This highly competitive category included the finalists Procter & Gamble, British Airways and Anglian Water. The awards are a new venture between BCS and Computing, merging the BCS IT Industry Awards and the Computing Awards for Excellence to create one platform for the entire profession to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence. David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, said: “This year’s Awards have been exceptional. I was delighted to take part in the judging day and witness firsthand the quality of the winners and medallists. To qualify as a finalist is terrific, to win is an absolutely fantastic achievement, and I offer my heartfelt congratulations to all those took part. They not only provide examples of best practice but also demonstrate how IT is enabling today’s information society from entertainment to healthcare, manufacturing to retail.” Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO) completed the launch of its revolutionary proof of posting system in 2009 and was the first UK outdoor media owner to offer the service across its entire street furniture and billboard portfolio. WAVe has removed the capacity for error from what is a huge undertaking – the display of some 60,000 different posters by CCO across the UK which need to be changed every two weeks, and in some cases every week. WAVe provides not only proof-of-posting but peace of mind for advertising clients and has set a standard that the outdoor industry must follow. WAVe also enables CCO to improve its community service by facilitating instantaneous reporting of any damage to bus shelters and billboards. According to David Oliver, Finance Director at Clear Channel Outdoor UK: “WAVe as an IT project involved collaboration across multiple teams and disciplines from its inception to its implementation. It continues to impact on sales and operations on a daily basis as a means of reassurance for clients and as a way of setting CCO apart from its competitors. We are delighted to win this award against such strong competition in the Private Sector category.” Click here to view the full list of winners. Click here to find out more about WAVe.
